Workshop 1: Create & Critique: Designed for children ages 6-8 and 9–11, this class begins with an introduction to the history of the Statue of Liberty. Students will participate in a guided discussion and art critique led by artist Laura Loving, exploring her original painting Lady Liberty and learning how artists use line, color, shape, and composition to communicate ideas.
Next, students will create their own cityscape or Statue of Liberty. The session concludes with a supportive group critique where students share their artwork, discuss their creative process, and celebrate one another’s ideas. The class emphasizes creativity, self-expression, artistic exploration, and building confidence through thoughtful discussion and positive feedback.

Workshop 2: Collage: Students will explore the world of collage and mixed media with artist Laura Loving. Art Stars will learn how artists use layers of paper, color, texture, and found materials to create unique compositions while developing their own artistic ideas.
Students will then experiment with a wide variety of materials—including magazines, newspapers, patterned papers, markers, and oil pastels—to design and create their own original collage.
The session concludes with a supportive group critique where students share their work, discuss their creative process, and celebrate each other’s ideas. The focus is on creativity, self-expression, artistic exploration, and building confidence through positive feedback.
Workshop 3: Summer Sketchbook: Art Stars get ready for a summer of creativity by learning how artists use sketchbooks as creative spaces to collect ideas, explore new materials, record memories, and develop their artistic voices.
Each student will receive their own sketchbook. They will create a personalized sketchbook cover and design a “Creative Laboratory” page filled with their interests, dreams, favorite places, and future project ideas. The workshop encourages experimentation with a wide range of materials, including drawing, painting, collage, photography, and writing.
Children will leave with a sketchbook and inspiration to continue filling the pages throughout the summer. This class emphasizes curiosity, observation, imagination, and confidence, helping young artists develop habits that support lifelong creativity.

Workshop 4: Unforgettable Logos: Students will discover the fascinating stories behind some of the world’s most recognizable logos and the artists who made them. Young artists will explore how a simple symbol can communicate an idea, represent a brand, and become part of popular culture.
Students will study the iconic New York Knicks logo designed by illustrator and lettering artist Michael Doret, the elegant Chanel logo created by fashion designer Coco Chanel, and the famous Nike Swoosh designed by graphic design student Carolyn Davidson. Through discussions and visual analysis, students will learn about each designer’s creative process, the history behind the logos, and the design choices that helped make them instantly recognizable.
Inspired by these famous examples, they will then design their own original logo based on their interests, personality, or a brand they invent themselves.
The session concludes with a supportive group critique where students share their work, discuss their creative process, and celebrate each other’s ideas. The focus is on creativity, self-expression, artistic exploration, and building confidence through positive feedback.
