Art for Education

Sharing my art for the benefit of others is important to me. I have donated work to more than 100 nonprofit organizations, including Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, T.J. Martell Foundation, Habitat for Humanity and Food Fight. This year, my work will be included in the following school auctions for scholarships and special programs.

PS41 The Greenwich Village School Auction
PS452 School Auction (Upper West Side NYC)
University of Georgia Terry College of Business Alumni Awards Gala

In addition to donating one of my limited edition prints to PS41, I was in charge of my daughter’s class project for the auction.

Here is what we did:

I read the kids the poem “Now We Are Six” by AA Milne. We discussed how everyone in the class was either six or had been six. Basically – they were all experts on what it means to be six. Even Mrs. Ali and each parent had also been six at one time.

We talked about how this piece of art would be a celebration of being six. We looked at the number paintings of artist Robert Indiana and my recent collage pieces.

Each child created 2 pieces of art – one focusing on many versions of the number 6 and the second was their written statements on what being six means to them (their experiences, what they love, what they want to be and in some cases the challenges they face). This folk art collage master piece is the curated result.
