This striking black and white still life draws inspiration from the Dutch Golden Age and the mixed media, monochromatic flower paintings of Donald Baechler. Although my own practice is rooted in a vibrant, kaleidoscopic palette, I find black and white to be the most powerful color combination of all. The stark contrast awakens the senses and is simultaneously quiet and commanding.
